Cutting a factory's capacity charge in half

1.6 MWp of rooftop generation plus 2.4 MWh of storage, engineered around a punishing peak-demand tariff.

Cutting a factory's capacity charge in half

The challenge

Capacity charges and peak-period consumption accounted for 46 % of the plant's electricity bill. Two press lines created demand spikes that set the billed maximum for the entire year.

Engineering design

1.6 MWp across four roof areas, a 2.4 MWh LFP storage system dispatched against a real-time demand controller, harmonic filtering on the drive network and power-factor correction at the main switchboard.

Installation

Seven months with zero production downtime; all switchboard works performed during planned August shutdown.

They modelled the saving to within three percent of what we actually achieved in year one.
