Why DC coupling matters

In Powerwall 3, solar arrives as DC and charges the battery as DC. Eliminating the DC→AC→DC round trip of an AC-coupled system recovers several percentage points of annual yield and removes a separate string inverter from the wall.

Whole-home backup as standard

11.5 kW of continuous output is enough to run air conditioning, induction cooking, heat pumps and an EV charger simultaneously on most homes, so backup no longer means a reduced 'essential loads' panel.

Choosing between Powerwall 2 and Powerwall 3

Powerwall 3 is the default for new solar installations. Powerwall 2 remains the right answer when retrofitting a home that already has a healthy string inverter, or where multiple smaller units suit the electrical layout better.
